Yrou - A Coffee Family You Can Be a Part of
Nestled amidst the scenic beauty of the Bolaven Plateau in Laos, Yrou Coffee is more than just a coffee brand. Founded by Mrs. Ketmany Phonsavanh, a third-generation coffee grower, Yrou Coffee embodies the rich heritage of coffee cultivation in Laos.
With a commitment to quality, fairness, and social responsibility, Yrou Coffee offers a unique coffee experience that goes beyond the cup.

Environment, tradition and collaboration make the best coffee
The perfect altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, the mountainous terrain, the volcanic rich red tinted soils, the consistent rainfall and constant year-round 25 degrees temperature together create the perfect environment to grow outstanding coffee.
But it’s the love that our coffee community adds to it that makes Yrou coffee even more special. Our coffee-growing region is enriched by the diverse ethnic communities that call it home. They bring a wealth of stories, lifestyles, and traditions to our land. This diversity is at the heart of what we do.
Tradition and families working together matter to us, and our mission is to support and uplift the local coffee farmers, ensuring their welfare and fair pay. We work closely to improve the lives of community members, and to produce delicious, premium coffee at fair prices.
Our story
The Yrou Coffee story began on the Bolaven Plateau, where Mrs Ketmany Phonsavanh was inspired to continue her family’s coffee legacy. Her family had a thriving farm right in the centre of the Bolaven Plateau, near Phu Oui, covering 20-30 hectares, where Ketmany’s mother grew up surrounded by coffee trees with bright emerald leaves and deep red and golden yellow cherries.
In 2010, Ketmany made Paskong home and joined forces with her mother in the business she had built from scratch – the Theravada Hotel. But her true passion, for coffee, was in her genes, and her dream to build a seed to cup coffee line became clear.
With this deep-rooted connection to the land and a passion for coffee, she established Yrou Coffee as a tribute to her heritage and a commitment to her community, and she started the first step in the Yrou Coffee journey by collecting beans from farmers.

“Our farm continues our family coffee tradition, from my grandparents, to my mother, and now, me.”
Mrs Ketmany Phonsavanh,
You Coffee Founder

Our coffee family extends beyond the bloodline
Our coffee business is closely intertwined with the community that grows our beans. We actively work with four coffee farming families, collectively managing around 30 hectares of coffee farmland. When they succeed, we succeed, so our long term focus is on strengthening families by giving them real chances to grow, and positively impacting every part of their lives.
Our work together has often meant families no longer needing to migrate or seeking unskilled jobs abroad. Supporting them isn't just about business growth, but about building a resilient community that paves the way for a better and brighter future.
Because these farmers are more than our business partners; they are our coffee family.
We believe in the importance of tradition and the power of families working together. Our coffee-growing region is enriched by the diverse ethnic communities that call it home. We are committed to supporting women and ethnic groups in our community.
In our farming region there are 24 different ethnic groups: Tru, Ya Hein, Ka Tang, Ta Xoy and more – and they all bring a wealth of stories, lifestyles, and traditions to our land.
This diversity is at the heart of what we do.
Growing into
our coffee vision
Our next step is to expand our coffee cultivation by 20 hectares. We have the land already and we’re aiming for an annual yield of approximately 80-90 tons of cherries by 2028. We will be planting a variety of coffee types, including Geisha, Java, Liberica, Robusta, and others.
The land is divided into different parcels, with one located near the hotel and the other near Phu Oui. This arrangement provides us with the flexibility to plant different varieties based on soil and other specific requirements.

Our Commitment to Give Back
We’re still a young company, but our roots and heritage goes deep, and with it the commitment to give back. Despite the challenges that come with the growing phase of a business, our unwavering commitment to giving back to the Laotian coffee community is non negotiable. A portion of our profits goes towards supporting local philanthropic initiatives, providing access to clean water and education.
All this means that when you choose Yrou Coffee, you become a part of a mission to create positive change, one cup at a time.

Our Continuous Quest for Roasting Excellence
Our journey in the world of coffee has been one of continuous learning and growth. Ketmany eagerly seized every opportunity to learn from coffee professionals and took formal training in roasting and cupping, following the exacting standards of the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI). Additionally, she pursued training in SCA roasting and sensory analysis in Bangkok, as well as Q-processing from CQI.
Our roaster handles 5 kg per batch, and on average, we roast 50 kg a day. We're relentlessly driven to achieve the best taste with each roast, a quest we embark on with meticulous checking, tasting, and refining.
Coffee sales and operations
Our coffee beans find their way into cafes spanning from Savannakhet to Pakse, Vientiane, and even as far as Luang Prabang, extending into emerging markets in Thailand.
We also cater to tourists, offering them a unique and memorable experience that seamlessly blends breathtaking scenery with exceptional coffee.
Our service culture is centered around understanding the preferences and needs of our clientele, ensuring prompt coffee orders and efficient service. coffee.
From coffee plantations to the coffee shop, we control every step. This helps us keep costs down. We offer a variety of coffees, including Java, Yellow Catuai, and Typica, each crafted with skill to ensure an exceptional taste at a reasonable price.

‘I love creating things, particularly food and drinks. There's a real joy in serving people and seeing them happy with what I've made. I always look for chances to do this. My days are spent in the kitchen, cooking with care. And as evening falls, I'm at my roasting machine, working to get the perfect roast. Everything is done on site, from roasting to bagging and packaging.
